In Ragnarok Online, equipment can be upgraded or refined by Upgrade NPCs to make it more powerful. Refine level can range between +0 to a maximum of +10. However, not everything can be refined. Middle headgear, lower headgear, accessories, or any equipment that specifically states that it cannot be upgraded are impossible to refine.
Upgrading Requirements
Each attempt to upgrade equipment consume reagent and fee depending on the equipment level. Equipment level defines the rarity of the equipment and usually stated in its description. But this only applicable to weapon because armor does not have equipment level.

Upgrading an item is not that easy, as chances reduce the higher the refine level goes. Your attempt can either success or fail. Successful upgrade is a good news, but fail upgrade can be devastating as it cost you to lose your reagent, fee, and the equipment itself.
Refinement Bonus
As mentioned earlier, upgraded equipment will give bonus effects to the user. Refinement bonus is just another tool for player to be more powerful and advance than other player or when going against monster.
